James Gold

Time & Leisure take the time to interview Director James Gold

Time & Leisure recently interviewed James Gold, Founder and Director of Landmark Lofts and Landmark Architects. We thought our readers might be interested in reading his answers, in which he discusses what he loves about his job, the future of Landmark Lofts  and a love of food and drink that has led to Landmark Lofts becoming a major sponsor of the 2013 T&L Food & Drink Awards (which are currently open for voting!).

Have a read and let us know what you think! You can also read James’ interview here:

Local business director James Gold takes a few minutes out to talk food, drink, and the future of Landmark Lofts:

T&L: Tell us a bit more about what you do?

JG: I’m the director and founder of the Landmark Group and a number of other companies that range from art investment to education. Every day is pretty different so there isn’t a ‘routine’ but I will usually focus on managing and developing one part of the group at a time and coming up with new ideas for ways to better serve our customers and clients.

What’s the best part of your job?

That it is hugely varied – Monday might be on site with builders standing on a rooftop with amazing views over London and Tuesday could be strategy meetings with designers and our PR guys on how best to launch our new furniture range. No two days are really the same so that’s what I love about what I do.

What’s your favourite way to unwind?

Having an iPhone makes it fairly difficult to switch off from the office entirely but I love finding great little restaurants around London. It is a fantastic way to explore bits of town I don’t know all that well and to discover an incredible array of cuisines from around the world without having to suffer from jet-lag. We have worked with Time & Leisure for a number of years and sponsoring the 2013 Food & Drink Awards seemed like a perfect way to combine our support of local business with some of the best food the city has to offer.

What’s your favourite restaurant/bar? Who will you be voting for in the Time & Leisure Food & Drink Awards?

Would it be undiplomatic not to say Les Trois Garcons?! In southwest London I’m really enjoyed eating at The Abbeville Kitchen in Clapham. Elsewhere I think I should probably apply for a loyalty card at Tayyabs in Whitechapel: despite the inevitable queue they must have the best lamb chops in London (and BYOB). For drinks I quite enjoy tucked-away cocktail bars like the Nightjar near Old Street or the ECC in Chinatown but for amazing design and atmosphere it would have to be Loungelover in Shoreditch or perhaps Lost Angel in Battersea.

What’s your favourite cocktail?

Probably something classic to drink all evening – I’d go for a gin martini or maybe an Old Fashioned (especially the one in the ECC which uses a Cuban cigar infused bourbon). In the summer I’d probably go for a classic Pimms though!

What’s happening/anything exciting for you/Landmark Lofts in 2013?

There are lots of new plans in the pipeline for Landmark Lofts in 2013 as we expand into new areas of London and continue to focus on delivering the very best service to our clients. We are constantly looking at new technologies to make our projects more cost efficient and sustainable; I think this is going to be an area where we see most changes this year.
