Part A: Chiswick living guide – why Chiswick homeowners are opting to stay put

This is the second in our new series of ‘area profiles’, in which we take a particular area of London and give you a snapshot of it to assist you in your search for a new home or to give you an excuse to stay put! Last month we focused on Wimbledon and gave homeowners some great tips for doing up their guest room to rent out to next year’s tennis fans, and this month we’re heading north to neighbouring Chiswick.

Chiswick comprises of Turnham Green, Chiswick Riverside and Chiswick Homefields wards. Bordered by the River Thames, Chiswick is a vibrant cosmopolitan urban area that brims with life, colour and activity all throughout the year.

Chiswick is a family favourite because of its proximity to some of the most beautiful parks and open community spaces in London as well as sites that are steeped in heritage and history. Breathtaking locations like Kew Gardens and Chiswick House make the area a well-known visitor centre and film location. It is also popular because it is home to many prestigious schools, including Laytmer Prep SchoolThe Falcons Schools and Belmont Primary School, to name just a few. For professionals who work in the city, it’s only a 30 minute train ride to the city and it provides a direct route to Heathrow Airport.

Foxtons puts the average house price at £1,085,487 and the average flat price at £504,586, with 65% of the property market being flats. Because of the high price that larger houses fetch, a popular option for owners of flats who want to remain in the popular area is to ‘move up’ instead of ‘out’ by undertaking a loft conversion or home extension.

The Chiswick Summer Fair is happening today and is a great opportunity for Chiswick homeowners trying to find reasons to retain and improve their piece of the Chiswick housing pie to get a feel for the community spirit that the area is famous for. With activities for all ages as well as great music and food, it promises to be a fun family day out, with all proceeds being distributed to local charities.

Stay tuned for Part B of our Chiswick series, in which we’ll show off one of our stunning loft conversions or home extensions in Chiswick. In the meantime, if you have any questions about Chartered architectshome extension architects, a home extension cost or about the specific planning laws for the Chiswick area, contact the team at Landmark Architecture.
